Rivers Cuomo Says Sitcom Based on His Life Isn’t Happening Anymore

Credit: Brantley GutierrezSay it ain't so! The FOX sitcom DeTour, based on Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo's life, will not be airing, according to Cuomo himself.

"DeTour did not get picked up," he tells Vulture. "So that whole chapter is closed."

The sitcom was going to tell the story of Michael Sturges -- a 30-year-old rock star who decides to quit his band and go to college, which is based on Cuomo's decision to apply to Harvard after Weezer released their debut album.

"It's weird; in music if you make an album and your label decides not to put it out, you can bring it to another label and sometimes it can be a big success," says Cuomo, who was an executive producer on the show. "At least it gets out. In TV, I've learned, it's not like that."

Though the pilot for DeTour was filmed, Cuomo says you shouldn't expect to ever see it.

"The pilot was made, completely finished, and we can't show it to anybody!" he says. "No one will ever see it. It's a huge waste of money."

Weezer is currently on tour in support of their latest album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End.
