Rivers Cuomo Wants to “Reach a Much Bigger Audience” with Weezer’s Next Album

ABC/Randy HolmesWeezer had a busy 2016 on the road touring in support of their 10th studio album, Weezer (White Album), but frontman Rivers Cuomo spent a lot of the year thinking about album number 11.

"Every day of 2016 I have been working on new songs -- this next record's going to be crazy," Cuomo tells Billboard. "As much touring as we did this summer, I feel like 2016 was about making the next record."

Cuomo adds that Weezer's next album will likely take different sonic path from its predecessor.

"With The White Album, it was a '90s grungy take on '60s pop songs, and one of our best records," he says. "We want to try something really different and reach a much bigger audience with the next record."

While Weezer looks for a bigger audience with their next effort, White Album definitely did reach one audience in particular: Grammy voters. The record is up for Best Rock Album at the 2017 Grammys.
