Royal Blood Says “Playing Live Is What the Whole Band Is All About”

Credit: Eliot Lee HazelHaving just played the Governors Ball festival in New York City, Royal Blood's headlining tour continues this week with a show in Washington, D.C. on June 10. The band's year so far has consisted of almost non-stop touring, and that isn't by accident.

"Playing live is what the whole band is about," vocalist and bassist Mike Kerr tells The Washington Times. "Everything we do revolves around playing live, whether it is writing songs, making records or doing interviews. We love playing live. It is all so we can get out there and play live. It is where the true spirit of the band comes through."

Even if you've been to a Royal Blood concert before, you can expect something new the next time you see them live.

"Every show we play, we try to add a special one-off thing in the set that is just for that night," Kerr says. "The thing that makes each show special is we don’t plan what that one-off thing will be. But it always happens naturally."

At the moment, Royal Blood only has one album to tour behind, their 2014 self-titled debut. However, Kerr says that new music is on the horizon.

"The wheels are turning for sure: ideas, lyrics, song pieces," he says. "Not sure what it will be like -- the sound or the feel of it. [It's] sort of secret at the moment, but I know it's going to sound really good."
