The acoustically-driven "Lake Song" is a quieter, earthier contrast to the more upbeat "Make You Better," the first single from the new record. What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World is the follow-up to 2011's The King is Dead, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. That album's single, "Down by the Water," received a Grammy nomination in the Best Rock Song category.
The Decemberists will be performing "Make it Better" on the December 3 episode of Conan. A few months later, the band will begin their trek across North America in support of What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World. The tour begins March 21 in their hometown of Portland, Oregon and wraps up April 13 in Nashville, Tennessee.
What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, featuring "Lake Song" and "Make You Better," will be released on January 20.
