Image Courtesy of Martha's MusicThe Smashing Pumpkins will have a new band member for their forthcoming co-headlining tour with Marilyn Manson. Jack Bates, who is the son of Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook, will be The Pumpkins' new touring bassist. Bates also plays in his father's band, Peter Hook and the Light.

Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan announced the news on Twitter, writing, "Jack Bates, bassist for Peter Hook's The Light, will be joining us for the Manson tour." Bates then added, "Playing bass for @SmashingPumpkin this summer!"

For The Smashing Pumpkins' last tour, Corgan recruited Rage Against the Machine's Brad Wilk and The Killers' Mark Stoermer to play drums and bass, respectively. While they won't be joining The Pumpkins on their tour with Manson, Corgan clarifies that "no one's been 'given the boot' from the band."

"Mark and Brad actually did MORE dates than we'd orig[inally] discussed," Corgan writes. "Love them both."

The Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson co-headlining tour kicks off July 7 in Concord, California.
