The xx Debuts New “On Hold” Video

Young TurksThe xx has released a video for their new single“On Hold.”

The clip, directed by acclaimed British photographer Alasdair McLellan, was shot in Marfa, Texas, where the London indie-pop band wrote and recorded some of their upcoming third album, I See You.

The video begins with a series of silent images of the town and some of its young residents before the song kicks in as tentative phone conversation between xx members Romy Croft and Oliver Sim. The conversation continues against a backdrop of the Marfa residents’ daily lives.

In a statement, the band describes Marfa as “a very special place for us” and adds, “We have a lot of love and respect for the people of the USA, having played hundreds of shows across the country over the past years. We hope this video reflects just some of the warmth and acceptance we have encountered there.”

Set for release January 13, I See You was also partially recorded in the band’s home base of London, as well New York, Los Angeles and Reykjavik, Iceland. It was co-produced by the third member of the xx, Jamie Smith.

The xx has embarked on an ambitious tour of Europe and U.K., including seven consecutive sold-out shows at the O2 Academy in London next March. After that, the band heads to South America for several festival dates.
