Thom Yorke “Suspiria” song makes shortlist for Oscar nomination

XL RecordingsThom Yorke is one step closer to an Oscar nomination. The Radiohead frontman's song, "Suspirium," from his Suspiria soundtrack, has made the shortlist of contenders for the Best Original Song trophy at the upcoming 91st Academy Awards.

Originally, 90 tracks were deemed eligible for nomination for Best Original Song, but now members of the Academy's Music Branch have narrowed down the list to just 15, one of which is "Suspirium."

Other songs that made the shortlist include Kendrick Lamar and SZA's Black Panther collaboration "All the Stars," Jennifer Hudson's "I'll Fight" from the Ruth Bader Ginsburg doc RBG, and Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born hit, "Shallow," which is largely considered to be the frontrunner.

If "Suspirium" makes the cut and receives an Oscar nomination, Yorke will be the second Radiohead member to earn such an honor. Guitarist Jonny Greenwood's score of the 2017 film Phantom Thread earned a nod for Best Original Score at the 90th Academy Awards.

The nominations for the 91st Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 22. The ceremony airs Sunday, February 24 on ABC.
