Tom DeLonge is expanding the universe of his Poet Anderson character with a live action short film, and he's cast the actor who will play his creation. Teen Wolf actor Tyler Posey will play Poet in the currently untitled film, which was written and directed by the former Blink-182 guitarist.
"As a big fan of Tom's, I knew all about the Poet franchise and couldn't have been more stoked to be a part of it," Posey says in a statement. "And I was so humbled that he picked me to bring Poet to life. It was nothing short of a dream to work with him, let alone having him compliment me on my work and feeling like a true friend of his rather than just a work partner. He's a real genuine, ambitious and inspiring person that I love calling a friend."
DeLonge's Poet Anderson saga began with Angels & Airwaves' last album, The Dream Walker. The sci-fi-inspired story then continued in an animated short film and comic books. DeLonge also is working on a series of Poet Anderson novels, the first of which will be released October 6.
As a preview for the new film, DeLonge will be screening an exclusive clip during his "A Conversation with Tom Delonge" event at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on October 13. The film will be released in full later this year.
