Tom DeLonge to Direct Sci-Fi Film Based on “Strange Times” Franchise

Credit: Johnny BuzzerioTom DeLonge is adding another project to his ever-expanding creative repertoire. The former Blink-182 guitarist will direct a feature film based on his own sci-fi Strange Times franchise, which consists of a graphic novel and a planned young-adult book trilogy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film, which DeLonge also will co-produce, will follow a "rebellious group of San Diego skateboarders" who discover "extreme paranormal activity around town."

"I grew up in Southern California as a disaffected young skateboarder who broke the occasional law or five, and I was always dreaming about the world around me, obsessively looking for the more unusual and imaginative experiences that life has to offer," DeLonge says. "That’s the inspiration behind Strange Times, which is about the tribe of broken youth and the restless spirit that inspired me to form Blink-182 and seek out adventure."

In addition to directing and producing the film, DeLonge co-wrote the script, and he'll be recording original music for the movie with his band Angels & Airwaves.

The film is expected to begin production this fall.
