ABC/Randy HolmesTom Morello has released the video for "Every Step That I Take," a track off the Rage Against the Machine guitarist's new solo album, The Atlas Underground.
The clip, streaming now on YouTube, is described as a "modern take" on the story of Joe Hill, a labor activist who was executed by a firing squad in 1915 after being convicted of murder. The trial was very controversial, and many believe he was wrongly convicted due to his position in the labor movement.
"Revolutionary labor troubadour Joe Hill was murdered by a Utah firing squad for a crime he did not commit," says Morello in a statement. "They pinned a heart & crosshairs to his chest so the firing squad wouldn't miss."
"His ashes were mailed to the four corners of the world," he adds. "And from those ashes generations of new revolutionaries continue to rise."
Morello notes, "The Atlas Underground sprang from those ashes as well and is proof that ideas, songs and struggle are bulletproof."
"Every Step That I Take" features Portugal. the Man and electronic artist Whethan.
