In Travis Barker's new memoir, Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums, the Blink-182 drummer details the fateful plane crash that nearly took his life in 2008. In his first in-depth TV interview since the crash, a clip of which aired on Tuesday's Good Morning America, Barker shares with ABC News his harrowing memories of tragedy.
"The plane's on fire, my hands are on fire," Barker says of the accident. "I unbuckle my seat belt and I jump right into the jet, which holds all the fuel. I basically ignite my whole body."
Barker suffered burns on over 65 per cent of his body, and he reveals that in his immense pain, he actually contemplated suicide. He would even call friends and offer them $1 million to take his life.
"I mean, [medical officials] had to take my phone out of my room," Barker says.
What helped Barker in his recovery the most was the support from his children, Landon and Alabama. Naturally, the aftermath of the crash greatly affected them as well.
"It was just hard for them to see me in the state that I was in," Barker tells ABC News. "You know, they color in class and..everyone's drawing pictures of their family or what they did on the weekend and Landon's drawing a picture of a plane crashing."
Barker hasn't flown since the crash -- he's traveled by ship to Blink-128's international tours -- but he knows exactly what it will take to get him back on a plane.
"I tell my children, 'When you're ready to fly, I'm ready to fly,'" he says.
Can I Say is on bookshelves today.
