In addition to their success in music, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood have also made made quite a few contributions to film. Now, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is recognizing Reznor and Greenwood's accomplishments in scoring films by inviting them to become members of the organization.
Both Reznor and Greenwood's work in film has mostly been tied to one director: David Fincher for Reznor and Paul Thomas Anderson for Greenwood. Fincher's films The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl were all scored by Reznor, while Greenwood has worked with Anderson on There Will Be Blood, The Master and Inherent Vice.
Other invitees to the Academy this year include Atticus Ross, who frequently collaborates with Reznor, and Tyler Bates, who worked with Marilyn Manson on his latest album, The Pale Emperor.
If Reznor and Greenwood accept the invitation to the Academy, they'll be allowed to vote on the Oscars. Reznor's work on The Social Network earned him an Oscar for Best Original Score.
