Unplugged wire reportedly caused Metallica’s Grammy performance mishap; Laverne Cox apologizes for forgetting intro

Monty Brinton/CBSMetallica's microphone mishap during their Grammy performance last night was reportedly caused by an unplugged wire. According to TMZ, sources close to the production say that a stagehand accidentally disconnected a wire under the stage, which caused frontman James Hetfield's mic to go dead.

TMZ adds that the wire was eventually fixed, but with only seconds left in the performance. For most of the song, a clearly frustrated Hetfield shared a mic with Metallica's collaborator for the night, Lady Gaga.

Even before the mic troubles, Metallica's Grammy performance got off to a shaky start -- actress Laverne Cox forgot to mention the band during her introduction. She has since apologized for the mistake.

"I am so sorry to #Metallica and all their fans," Cox wrote on Twitter. "I am told I didn't say their names during the intro. Love you Metallica. You Rock."
