Watch Dave Matthews Raise the “12th Man” Flag for Seattle Seahawks

Credit: Danny ClinchSeattle resident Dave Matthews had the honor of raising the 12th Man flag on the city's iconic Space Needle ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. As NFL teams can only field 11 players at a time, the "12th man" refers to the Seahawks' collective fanbase.

"It's like a really excited herd," Matthews tells ABC Seattle TV affiliate KOMO News of the 12th Man spirit. "It's like we're wild dogs."

Seahawks fans are notoriously loud -- so loud, in fact, that they actually once caused an earthquake cheering for a touchdown run by running back Marshawn Lynch.

Earlier in this year's NFL playoffs, Pearl Jam guitarist -- and noted Seahawks fan -- Mike McCready raised the 12th Man flag. Fellow grunge pioneers Alice in Chains performed during halftime of the NFC Championship game between the Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers.

Super Bowl 49 will be held Sunday, February 1. Lenny Kravitz will join pop star Katy Perry during the game's halftime show.
