Watch Evanescence members cover ’80s hit “Cruel Summer” from quarantine

Credit: P.R. BrownEvanescence's Amy Lee and guitarist Troy McLawhorn have shared a remote cover of the '80s hit "Cruel Summer."

The pair recorded the performance while quarantined in their respective homes, with Lee's voice and keyboards turning the track into a haunting ballad. You can watch it streaming now on YouTube.

"Cruel Summer" was originally recorded by the group Bananarama, and became a hit in the U.S. in 1984 when it was featured in The Karate Kid.

In April, Evanescence released a new single called "Wasted on You." Lee and company plan to release a new record later this year, their first all-original effort since 2011.
