For those who are unfamiliar, The Last of Us Part II is a recently released video game set in a post-apocalyptic world where much of the population has turned into zombie-like creatures known as "Infected." You play as Ellie, who, between trying to survive Infected attacks and hostile human enemies, is also an aspiring guitar player.
During multiple points in the game, you can pick up an acoustic guitar and "play" it by selecting chords and swiping the touch-pad on the PlayStation 4 controller. So, during a recent Twitch stream, Hoppus was able to perform "Dammit" in The Last of Us Part II by clicking the chords to the song and singing along.
Recreating songs in The Last of Us Part II has become something of a viral challenge, with gamers figuring out how to play tunes such as Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters," Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), and The Eagles' "Hotel California."
By the way, in the actual game, you learn how to play Pearl Jam's Lighting Bolt song "Future Days."
Some players questioned how "Future Days" could exist in the world of The Last of Us, since Lightning Bolt was released October 2013, a month after the game's so-called Outbreak Day, when the infection took over the world, happened in September 2013. Well, as The Last of Us Part II co-director Neil Druckmann points out, Pearl Jam had actually played "Future Days" live in July 2013.
