Watch Metallica cover “War Pigs” in Black Sabbath’s hometown

ABC/Randy HolmesOn Monday, Metallica's European tour made a stop in Birmingham, England: the birthplace of Black Sabbath. During the show, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo honored the hometown metal heroes with a cover of "War Pigs."

Trujillo handled lead vocals for the performance, but encouraged the arena to sing along, and they happily obliged. You can watch footage of the cover now via Metallica's Twitter.

Over the weekend, Hammett and Trujillo teamed up for a cover of "Don't Look Back in Anger" during their show at the newly reopened Manchester Arena, the site of the May 22 terrorist bombing. In the days following the attack, the Oasis classic became a rallying cry and an anthem of defiance for the city of Manchester.

Metallica is currently touring Europe in support of their new album, Hardwired...to Self-Destruct. The band will return to the U.S. for a November 9 benefit concert in San Francisco in support of the victims of the Northern California wildfires, the deadliest in recorded state history.
