Watch Metallica Perform the National Anthem at the NBA Finals

BB Gun PressMetallica's James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett performed their instrumental version of the national anthem before Sunday night's NBA Finals game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and their hometown Golden State Warriors. You can watch their distortion-heavy take on "The Star-Spangled Banner" now on YouTube.

Perhaps it was the presence of Metallica that buoyed the Warriors, who overcame LeBron James' 40 points for a 104-91 win and a 3-2 series lead, to victory. Along with their performance at the NBA Finals, Metallica has also made appearances this year at the San Fransisco Giants' "Metallica Day" and the San Jose Sharks' "Metallica Night." In all three cases, the Bay Area team took home the victory.

Metallica has had quite the year performing at sporting events -- they also recently played the X Games in Austin, Texas. Perhaps when football season arrives, they'll perform at an Oakland Raiders game to complete the Bay Area sports teams cycle.
