Watch mini documentary on return of Billy Corgan’s stolen “Gish” guitar

ABC/Randy HolmesEarlier this month, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan revealed that he finally found his beloved Gish guitar, an early-'70s Fender Stratocaster guitar that was stolen way back in 1992. Now, you can watch a mini-documentary about the reunion.

The eight-minute video, streaming now on YouTube, includes footage of Corgan jamming with the formerly long-lost guitar and speaking about what it means to have the instrument back in his life.

"I was never able to find a guitar that had this exact sound," Corgan explains. "When I strung it up the other day and plugged in, I was, like, 'There it is, there's that sound that I've been looking for all these years.'"

"It's hard to put into words, other than it's the sound of my youth," he adds.

As detailed in a Rolling Stone article published February 6, a Michigan resident named Beth James had bought the guitar at a yard sale over a decade ago without knowing its significance. After realizing who it had belonged to, she was able to get in touch with an associate of Corgan's, who arranged the happy reunion.

Corgan plans to play the guitar on the next Smashing Pumpkins album, which he's currently recording.
