Credit: Austin NelsonWilco's show in Indiana is back on. The band originally canceled their May 7 concert at The Murat in Indianapolis in protest of the controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act signed by Indiana Governor Mike Pence, but since the law has been amended, the show will go on as scheduled.
"We consider the changes to Indiana's RFRA a good first step toward creating the sort of welcoming environment we encourage everywhere," writes Wilco on their Facebook page.
"We'll also donate a portion of the proceeds from this show to organizations fighting to build on the progress we hope this change makes in Indiana and beyond," the statement continues.
When Wilco first canceled their Indiana show, they wrote, "'Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act' feels like thinly disguised legal discrimination. Hope to get back to the Hoosier State someday soon, when this odious measure is repealed."
Governor Pence said he signed the law as initially passed to protect religious liberties, but critics believed it could lead to legally protected discrimination against gays and lesbians. The amended law now prohibits businesses and individuals from refusing service or goods to people based on sexual orientation, gender identity or other reasons.
