The Killers celebrate the 18th anniversary of their first “in the big time” paycheck

Credit: Olivia BeeNot many artists can say they saved their first major paycheck, but The Killers' drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. did and he has the photographic evidence to prove it.

The "Mr. Brightside" hitmakers took to Twitter on Thursday to reminisce about the first paycheck that let the band know they finally made it.

"18 years ago today," The Killers tweeted, sharing a photo of their first paystub that was stamped with the date April 8, 2003. "Our first 25 bucks in the big time. We each got one. Ronnie saved it for Instagram."

"Shoutout to Warner Bros for giving us a shot," the band noted.

The tweet caught the attention of Paula Moore, who served as the former A&R executive at Warner Media Group and helped arrange the band's demo performance.

Taking to her LinkedIn, she reminisced about being one of the forces behind the Killers' rise to superstardom, writing, "So happy to be the first to believe in these guys, and bring them out to showcase for me and my A&R colleagues at Warner Music Group."

"I'm so proud of what they’ve accomplished," she continued. "The scouting program I created that discovered them then was so special when I was an A&R executive at WMG."

Since releasing their breakout hit "Mr. Brightside," the American rock band continued to shake up the charts after all six of their albums became top 10 hits on the Billboard 200 chart.

Besides their debut single, The Killers also enjoyed success with their songs "Somebody Told Me," "When You Were Young" and Human."

Their latest album, Imploding the Mirage, made it to No. 8 on the chart, which produced the 2020 alternative hit "Caution."

Listen to Tame Impala remix Crowded House’s “To the Island”

EMI Music AustraliaAustralians unite on Tame Impala's new remix of a Crowded House song.

The Sydney-born Kevin Parker put his spin on the track "To the Island," a cut off the Melbourne-formed band's upcoming new album Dreamers Are Waiting, due out June 4.

"With all the world upended and nothing in its right place we became curious to hear how our favorite contemporary musicians and record makers might reimagine a Crowded House song," says frontman Neil Finn, who originally hails from New Zealand.

"I emailed our version of 'To the Island' to Kevin Parker with an invitation to take it apart and reassemble in his own unique way," he adds. "Happily, he really liked the song and it was an absolute delight to hear what he made from it, an exotic fantasy I would call it."

You can listen to the Tame Impala remix now via digital outlets. It'll also be included on a seven-inch vinyl single alongside another remix by New Zealand band Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

William DuVall’s pre-Alice in Chains band Neon Christ announces ‘1984’ release for Record Store Day

Theo Wargo/Getty ImagesAmid the big names including Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine on the list of exclusive releases for this year's Record Store Day, you might have noticed a band named Neon Christ, which, you may not know, featured future Alice in Chains vocalist William DuVall.

Neon Christ's RSD contribution is 1984, an archival compilation of songs recorded during the Atlanta punk band's brief run in the '80s. DuVall, then in his teens, played guitar in the group.

The 1984 vinyl contains 14 tracks, and is accompanied by a 12-page oral history of Neon Christ and a photo book.

Record Store Day will take place over two days this year: June 12 and July 17. The Neon Christ release will be available on the June 12 drop day.

DuVall played in a number of different bands throughout the '80s and '90s before joining Alice in Chains in 2006 when the grunge titans reunited following the 2002 death of Layne Staley.

You can hear Tyler Joseph’s daughter on Twenty One Pilots’ new “Shy Away” single

Credit: Ashley OsbornTyler Joseph's voice isn't the only one you hear on Twenty One Pilots' new single, "Shy Away."

As Joseph tells BBC Radio 1, the track starts off with a "cooing noise" courtesy of his baby daughter, Rosie.

"It's actually because when I was first working on the song, she was in the room with me," Joseph explains. "I had my phone out and [was] just singing something into a voice memo."

Rosie, who turned one in February, is not the first baby of a famous musician to be featured in their parents' music. Perhaps she'll follow in the footsteps of Blue Ivy Carter, who was a newborn when she was featured on her dad Jay-Z's song, "Glory," and who won a Grammy for her part in her mom Beyoncé's "Brown Skin Girl" video at age 9.

"Shy Away" is the lead single off the upcoming new Twenty One Pilots album Scaled and Icy, due out May 21. The duo will celebrate the album's release with a streaming concert that same day.

Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready announces signature guitar with Fender

Credit: Tim DurkanPearl Jam's Mike McCready has announced a signature guitar in collaboration with Fender.

The Limited Edition Mike McCready 1960 Stratocaster is a recreation of the guitarist's beloved vintage '60 Strat, assembled in collaboration with Fender Master Builder Vincent Van Trigt.

"Once I could afford a quality guitar, I immediately went for the vintage Stratocaster," McCready says. "It was my dream guitar because of my love for Stevie Ray Vaughan, and as my musical aspirations were coming true I had to have it. It was the first significant guitar that I bought, never thinking I could ever own one before Pearl Jam happened."

McCready adds that his "favorite feature" of his signature Fender is the "playability of the neck."

"It's so worn in and easy to play. It's got the best neck and fretboard of any of my guitars," he explains. "I also love how light it is. I actually picked up the prototype thinking it was the original a couple of times which shows me how meticulous and caring Master Builder Vincent Van Trigt and the whole Fender team has been throughout this process."

The Limited Edition Mike McCready 1960 Stratocaster will cost you $15,000, and only 60 pieces were built. The guitar is being released in celebration of the upcoming 30th anniversary of Pearl Jam's iconic 1991 debut album, Ten.
