Image Courtesy of Dave JacksonWhen Papa Roach kicks off their tour alongside Seether on Friday, they'll be kicking off a year of celebration -- a celebration of the release of their eighth album, F.E.A.R., and of the fifteenth anniversary of their breakthrough album, 2000's Infest.
As Papa Roach bassist Tobin Esperance tells ABC News Radio, that celebration will consist mainly of one important element: a no-holds-barred rock show.
"Really no gimmicks, it's just getting on stage and just f**king letting it all out," Esperance says of what fans can expect from Papa Roach's tour with Seether. "It's all about just performing good songs and just getting in the kids' faces and bringing a lot of energy."
Since the tour will commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of Infest, Esperance says the tour's set list will touch on some of Papa Roach's earlier, deeper cuts.
"[The set list is] going to be a little bit more of songs off of the first record, and then we're going to slowly kind of introduce more new songs as well," he explains.
Of course, Infest is the home of Papa Roach's first and biggest hit, "Last Resort." Esperance very much appreciates what "Last Resort," which has become a staple of Papa Roach's live show, did for his band's career.
"['Last Resort'] kicked open the doors wide open for Papa Roach, and fans connected with it and kids all over the world just love that song," he says. "There's an immediate reaction that escalates tenfold when we perform that song."
As Esperance sees it, "Last Resort" no longer belongs to Papa Roach.
"It's just a beautiful thing, man," he says. "We've handed that song over to the fans."
Papa Roach's tour with Seether will begin January 9 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The tour will wrap up February 7 in Las Vegas.
F.E.A.R. will be released on January 27.
