In one of the most fitting matches between an award's name and its recipient, Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard will receive the "Powerhouse" award at Billboard's 2015 Women in Music gala.
"Brittany Howard is the true definition of a powerhouse, from her unique and crushing vocals, to her meteoric rise in the last four years," says Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media's Entertainment Group, which owns Billboard. "She led Alabama Shakes to a massive year that included their Coachella debut and is quite deserving of Billboard's recognition."
Last year's winner of the "Powerhouse" award was pop star Jessie J.
Howard and Alabama Shakes released their sophomore record, Sound & Color, earlier this year. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
Billboard's 2015 Women in Music ceremony will be held December 11. The event will air on Lifetime on December 18.
