Depeche Mode rejects “official band of the alt-right” label

Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty ImagesDepeche Mode has responded to being called the "official band of the alt-right" by Richard Spencer, a white nationalist who you may know from that viral video of him getting punched in the head during Donald Trump's inauguration last month.

In a statement to Esquire, a rep for Depeche Mode said, "That's pretty ridiculous. Depeche Mode has no ties to Richard Spencer or the alt right and does not support the alt right movement."

Spencer himself later clarified that he was "joking," and added that he's a "lifelong Depeche Mode fan."

Depeche Mode will release their new album Spirit, which features the politically-charged lead single "Where's the Revolution," on March 17.
