Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon to Perform at MusiCares Person of the Year Gala Honoring Tom Petty

ABC/Travis BellFoo Fighters and Kings of Leon will perform at the 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year gala in honor of classic rocker Tom Petty.

To close out the festivities, Petty and his band The Heartbreakers will hit the stage to perform. Other musicians participating in the show include Elle King, Don Henley of The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks.

Foo frontman Dave Grohl has a long history with Petty -- he performed with the Heartbreakers on Saturday Night Live in November 1994, just months after his Nirvana band mate Kurt Cobain died. In fact, Petty offered Grohl the drumming gig in his band, but Grohl declined, choosing instead to work on his own solo projects, which would become Foo Fighters.

The 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year gala will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday, February 10, two days before the 59th annual Grammy Awards will be held at L.A.'s Staples Center.

The event raises money for MusiCares, an organization founded by the Recording Academy that provides financial and health services and resources for musicians in times of need.
