The Recording AcademyThe rock, alternative and metal Grammy categories were relegated to the Grammy pre-show on Sunday afternoon, rather than the actual telecast.
Best Rock Performance, a category whose nominees included everyone from HAIM to Brittany Howard to Phoebe Bridgers, was won by Fiona Apple, for "Shameika," the first single from her album Fetch the Bolt Cutters. In addition, the acclaimed Fetch The Bolt Cutters was named Best Alternative Album.
The Best Rock Song category was won by Brittany Howard, for her solo single "Stay High." Best Rock Album went to The Strokes, for The New Abnormal.
In the Best Metal Performance category, Ice-T's band Body Count won for "Bum-Rush," from their 2020 album Carnivore.
Also in the pre-show, Billie Eilish and FINNEAS won in the category of Best Song Written for Visual Media for No Time to Die, the as-yet unreleased James Bond film of the same name.
And randomly, Beck's album Hyperspace was named Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Andrew Watt was named Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for his work on, among other projects, a handful of tracks from Ozzy Osbourne's album Ordinary Man.
