On Friday's episode of Sonic Highways, Dave Grohl unveiled a solo track that he recorded during his pre-Foo Fighters days when he was the drummer for Nirvana. The three-minute demo, entitled "Hooker on the Street," takes more than a few cues from early nineties contemporaries Red Hot Chili Peppers. You can stream the rap and funk-infused track on YouTube.
Elsewhere on Friday's Seattle-themed episode, Grohl said that Kurt Cobain "kissed" him after he first heard Grohl's early solo recordings, including "Alone + Easy Target," which would eventually become the bedrock of the first Foo Fighters album.
"Kurt heard that, and kissed me on the face, as he was in a bath,” Grohl said, as reported by Consequence of Sound. "He was so excited. He was like, ‘I heard you recorded some stuff with [producer] Barrett [Jones].’ I was like, 'Yeah.' He was like, 'Let me hear it.' I was too afraid to be in the same room as he listened to it."
The Sonic Highways finale, which will focus on New York City, airs December 5.
