Metallica, Bastille, The 1975 win “NME” Awards

ABC/Randy HolmesThe 2017 NME Awards took place Wednesday night, and Metallica, Bastille and The 1975 all earned the publication's notorious middle finger trophy.

Metallica won the Best International Band award, and The 1975 earned the Best Live Band title. Bastille, meanwhile, took home the Best Album trophy for their sophomore effort Wild World.

"I think Adele put it better about winning over Beyonce, but thank you so much," Bastille's Dan Smith said in his acceptance speech. "We tried to make an album about how f***** the world seems and trying to get your head around it. I think everybody before us tonight has said much more articulate things than us four idiots could say."

Metallica accepted their trophy in a pre-taped segment from Copenhagen.

“We're bummed we couldn't be there tonight to join you in all the middle-fingering going around the joint, but we're very appreciative of this," said drummer Lars Ulrich.
