Michael Stipe Parodies R.E.M.’s “It’s the End of the World As We Know It” with Stephen Colbert and James Franco

Scott Kowalchyk/CBSIt's the end of 2016, and Michael Stipe -- reluctantly -- feels fine.

The former R.E.M. frontman appeared on Thursday's episode of The Late Show to perform a parody of his old band's song "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" called "It's the End of the Year As We Know It" along with host Stephen Colbert.

Throughout the song, Colbert rattled off all the crazy things that happened in 2016, from the election and Ken Bone to Zika and Harambe, while the heavily bearded Stipe stood stone-faced next to him. Eventually, Colbert coerced Stipe to join in with the optimistic "I feel fine" refrain, and none other than James Franco arrived to help sing, too.

R.E.M. recently reissued their 1991 album Out of Time in honor of its 25th anniversary.
