My Chemical Romance Taps Steve Aoki for “Black Parade” Remix

Theo Wargo/WireImageMy Chemical Romance has tapped legendary dance DJ Steve Aoki to help celebrate a milestone. Marking the 10th anniversary of the emo-punk band’s landmark 2006 album, The Black Parade, MCR has enlisted Aoki to remix the album’s signature single, “Welcome to the Black Parade.”

To coincide with the new remix, MCR frontman Gerrard Way and Aoki will live-stream a head-to-head battle in the multiplayer shooting game Overwatch on live-gaming portal Twitch on Wednesday, November 30. The winner will make a $10,000 donation to a charity of his choice.

The Black Parade debuted at number one on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart in 2006. The album sold more than a million copies, as did the single “Welcome to the Black Parade,” which also was included on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's “500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.”

Steve Aoki recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Dim Mak, his influential record label, apparel line and events/lifestyle company. In August, he released a remix of Blink-182's new single “Bored to Death.”

The new My Chemical Romance remix is streaming on Aoki's SoundCloud account.
