Image Courtesy of Fueled by RamenPanic! At the Disco and The Flaming Lips are among the artists who will contribute songs to an upcoming stage musical based on the Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants.
According to a press release posted on the Broadway in Chicago website, The SpongeBob Musical will on June 7, 2016, at Chicago's Oriental Theatre and will feature original tunes by both bands. Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry will also contribute new songs to the musical.
The producers offered this description of the production: "The end is here. Only one sponge can save the day. But he's going to need help from some of the greatest songwriters in rock and music history."
The SpongeBob Musical's run in Chicago will be a limited engagement that will end July 3 of next year. The show will then move on to Broadway for the 2016-2017 season.
