Panic! at the Disco has been tapped to perform at the 2015 Shorty Awards, which celebrate the best in social media. Frontman Brendon Urie tells Billboard the band's set at the ceremony will be "very, very loud."
"I'm curious to see what kind of reaction we'll get," Urie says. "Playing awards shows is always different from playing your own shows, festivals, club shows. Awards shows are always very unique."
The Shorty Awards performance will be among Panic's first shows since original drummer Spencer Smith announced earlier this month that he's leaving the band. Smith had been on hiatus from the band before he made his announcement, but Urie says that the shows will still feel different now that he's "officially" left.
"I love [Smith] so much, even as a friend, but having him make that decision for himself...I'm really proud of him," Urie says. "We've played without him for a while, but this will be one of the first since he officially left. I think it will be fun. The fans are always very supportive, so that makes it a lot easier."
Now that Smith has departed from Panic!, Urie is the sole original member still left standing in the band.
"I love this band," Urie says. "I love everything about it -- touring, songwriting. So for me it's never been a question of stopping or letting go of it all because I love it too much."
The 2015 Shorty Awards will be held April 20 in New York City. Nominees in the Band and Musician categories include Bastille, HAIM and Lorde.
