Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready announces signature guitar with Fender

Credit: Tim DurkanPearl Jam's Mike McCready has announced a signature guitar in collaboration with Fender.

The Limited Edition Mike McCready 1960 Stratocaster is a recreation of the guitarist's beloved vintage '60 Strat, assembled in collaboration with Fender Master Builder Vincent Van Trigt.

"Once I could afford a quality guitar, I immediately went for the vintage Stratocaster," McCready says. "It was my dream guitar because of my love for Stevie Ray Vaughan, and as my musical aspirations were coming true I had to have it. It was the first significant guitar that I bought, never thinking I could ever own one before Pearl Jam happened."

McCready adds that his "favorite feature" of his signature Fender is the "playability of the neck."

"It's so worn in and easy to play. It's got the best neck and fretboard of any of my guitars," he explains. "I also love how light it is. I actually picked up the prototype thinking it was the original a couple of times which shows me how meticulous and caring Master Builder Vincent Van Trigt and the whole Fender team has been throughout this process."

The Limited Edition Mike McCready 1960 Stratocaster will cost you $15,000, and only 60 pieces were built. The guitar is being released in celebration of the upcoming 30th anniversary of Pearl Jam's iconic 1991 debut album, Ten.

In an interview with Metal Hammer, the Evanescence frontwoman shares that she one day hopes to write music for a nature documentary.

"Every time I watch something like that I think, 'God, it'd be fun to work on the score for that!'"

While we all wait for that to come to fruition, you can listen to Evanescence's new album, The Bitter Truth, which just dropped in March. It's the band's first all-original record in 10 years.

Dave Grohl’s debut book ‘The Storyteller’ to be released in October

Dey Street BooksDave Grohl is now officially adding "author" to his ever-growing résumé. The Foo Fighters frontman will release his debut book, The Storyteller, on October 5.

According to a press release, The Storyteller will touch on everything from "hilarious childhood mishaps, touching family moments, leaving home to see the world at 18, to spectacular stories about Nirvana, Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Joan Jett, Iggy Pop, Paul McCartney, playing drums for Tom Petty on Saturday Night Live, performing at the White House, and even swing dancing with AC/DC."

"There is a common thread that runs throughout everything that I do: storytelling," Grohl says. "Whether in song, documentary film or on the page, I have always felt compelled to share moments from my life. This inclination is a huge part of what excites me creatively but also as a human being."

Grohl adds that he was inspired to finally write a book after the positive response to his @DavesTrueStories Instagram account, which he launched last year at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I soon found that the reward I felt every time I posted a story was the same as the feeling I get when playing a song to an audience, so I kept on writing," he explains. "The response from readers was a soul-filling as any applause in an arena. So, I took stock of all the experiences I've had in my life -- incredible, difficult, funny and emotional -- and decided it was time to finally put them into words."

The Storyteller will be published by Dey Street Books. You can pre-order it now via DaveGrohlStoryteller.com.
