Metallica performs ‘Master of Puppets’ track “Battery” on ‘Colbert’

Credit: Herring & HerringFresh off celebrating the 35th anniversary of their iconic album Master of PuppetsMetallica brought the heat to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Wednesday night to perform their song "Battery."

Of course, host Stephen Colbert was delighted he played a hand in celebrating the band's big anniversary moment as he introduced the band, being beamed in from an empty sound stage.

The track starts off with James Hetfield strumming the acclaimed opening bars before Kirk HammettLars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo dive head first into banging track.

While the band was unable to physically rock out on the show, they made up for it by getting experimental with their feed, which has the frames breaking up before shifting to a new camera to record their high octane performance.

At the time of its release, Master of Puppets became Metallica's highest-charting album, and has since been certified six-times platinum. In propelling thrash to new heights and newer audiences -- Master of Puppets is considered one of the most important and influential records in metal history

Master of Puppets was even added to Library of Congress' National Recording Registry in 2016 in celebration of its significance.

This would be Eddie Vedder’s baseball walk-up song

David Banks/Getty ImagesIn addition to being a beloved rock star, Eddie Vedder is also a huge baseball fan. That, of course, begs the question: what would he choose as his walk-up song?

That's what sports journalist Lindsay Czarniak asked the Pearl Jam frontman during a new episode of her The Artist and the Athlete podcast. His answer? "Give Me the Cure" by Fugazi.

"There's certain songs that just, like, the sound of them -- it's like a drug," Vedder explained. "So that's what I would use."

The episode also featured MLB player Anthony Rizzo, the first baseman for Vedder's favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. The two shared their memories of the Cubs' 2016 World Series win, which ended the team's 108-year wait for a championship, and Vedder shared the story behind his Cubs-inspired song, "All the Way."

Sweet meddling kids o’ mine: Axl Rose cameos in upcoming ‘Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?’ episode

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Live NationAxl Rose, where are you? With Scooby and the gang, of course.

The Guns N' Roses frontman makes an animated cameo in an upcoming episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, a cartoon series that continues the adventures of the mystery-solving teens and their lovable dog.

In a clip from the episode, streaming now via RollingStone.com, Scooby and company come across a diner on Route 66, only to find "singer-songwriter musician and total rock god" Axl Rose sitting on a motorcycle in the parking lot. Naturally, Rose is already friends with Shaggy and Scoob, and the clip ends with the trio performing an incredibly elaborate secret handshake.

Rose's episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? is set to premiere this Thursday, February 25, at 9 p.m. ET on Boomerang.

You may recall that a few years back, a cartoon Rose appeared in an episode of the Boomerang show New Looney Tunes, during which he sang a new song called "Rock the Rock." That track marked the first new original tune recorded by Rose in over 10 years.

Soundgarden claims lawsuit filed by Chris Cornell’s widow has “grossly mischaracterized” the situation

Martin Philbey/RedfernsSoundgarden has broken their silence about the lawsuit filed by Vicky Cornell, the widow of the late frontman Chris Cornell.

The widow claimed last week that the band offered to buyout her share in the group for less $300,000, which she deemed in her suit "villainously low."  Vicki attests Soundgarden was offered $16 million for their masters and is now seeking a judge to conduct a valuation of the "Black Hole Sun" band's assets.

Vicky previously offered the band offered $21 million for Cornell's share, but the band rejected the proposal.

The band -- consisting of surviving members Matt CameronKim Thayil and Hunter Shepherd -- issued a statement Sunday about Vicky's claim.

"[The] buyout offer that was demanded by the estate has been grossly mischaracterized and we are confident that clarity will come out in court," said the band, via Billboard.

As previously reported, Vicky first sued Soundgarden in December 2019 over the rights to seven unreleased recordings, which she claims were "solely authored" by Chris.

Soundgarden then claimed they had rightful ownership of the recordings, and issued a counter-suit, alleging that Vicky had misused charity funds raised from the Chris Cornell memorial show in 2019. That claim was later dropped, though the suit over the recordings continues.

Last December, the Cornell Estate released a new album called No One Sings Like You Anymore, a collection of covers Chris had recorded in 2016 prior to his 2017 death.

Courtney Love left acting due to “a bunch of #MeToos”

Ron Davis/Getty ImagesCourtney Love says she left her acting career because of "a bunch of #MeToos."

The Hole frontwoman appeared in a number of films in the '90s, and her performance in the movie The People vs. Larry Flynt earned her a Best Actress Golden Globe nomination. However, she's mostly stopped acting since the beginning of the 2000s, save for a few indie films and TV roles.

In an Instagram post accompanying a photo of her at the Globes when she was nominated, Love writes, "I love acting. I stopped being capable of it after a bunch of #MeToos."

"No one would believe me, and it wouldn't stop," Love shares. "So I left, and it left. And I'm good with it."

"Maybe, in my next life I'll be stronger & able to endure it," she adds. "I tip my hat to those who can.
It was super fun though."

Notably, Love publicly referenced rumors of Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct prior to the wave of allegations against the disgraced movie mogul that came in 2017. In a 2005 interview, Love warned young actresses, "If Harvey Weinstein invites you to a private party in the Four Seasons [hotel], don't go."

When the interview resurfaced as the allegations against Weinstein were being reported, Love tweeted, "Although I wasn't one of his victims, I was eternally banned by [talent agency] CAA for speaking out against #HarveyWeinstein."

Report: Vicky Cornell suing Soundgarden over buyout bid

Jim Spellman/WireImageVicky Cornell, the widow of the late Chris Cornell, is reportedly suing Soundgarden over a buyout offer from the band.

According to TMZ, the surviving members of the "Black Hole Sun" rockers offered Vicky $300,000 for Chris' share in the band. In her suit, Vicky reportedly claims that the offer is way too low -- she points to a previous $16 million offer for Soundgarden's masters, and that her stake, along with that of each of the three band members, should be worth $4 million.

Vicky is reportedly asking for a judge to conduct a valuation on Soundgarden's assets.

In statement to TMZ, a rep for Soundgarden says, "As requested by the Estate of Chris Cornell and as required by the laws of the State of Washington, the surviving members of Soundgarden submitted to the Cornell Estate four months ago a buy-out offer of the Estate’s interests in Soundgarden calculated by respected music industry valuation expert Gary Cohen."

"Since then, the band members have continued to try to settle all disputes with the Cornell Estate," the statement continues. "In their several attempts to settle, the band members have elected to offer multiple times more than the amount calculated by Cohen."

Vicky first sued Soundgarden in December 2019 over the rights to seven unreleased recordings, which she claims were "solely authored" by Chris. Soundgarden then claimed they had rightful ownership to the recordings, and issued a counter-suit alleging that Vicky had misused charity funds raised from the Chris Cornell memorial show in 2019. That claim was later dropped, though the suit over the recordings still continues.
