The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach Launches New Solo Project, The Arcs

Credit: Danny ClinchSix years after the release of his debut solo album, The Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach is launching a new solo project. The new band, called The Arcs, will release two boxing-themed songs, "Stay in My Corner" and "Tomato Can," on one seven-inch single May 2, the same day as the much-anticipated Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao fight. The single will only be available in independent record stores.

"I just wanted to do my thing and get extra weird," Auerbach tells Rolling Stone of the new project. "I wanted everything to flow [and] be cohesive. A lot of the songs bleed one into the other, a lot like the Grateful Dead -- my favorite records that they did. So I've got a lot of connected songs. It's basically everything I love about music all wrapped up into one record -- that's all!"

The Arcs' full-length debut album will be released this summer. Auerbach's last -- and so far, only -- solo album, Keep It Hid, came out in 2009.

Before The Arcs' debut is released, Auerbach will reconvene with The Black Keys to make up tour dates that were canceled due to a shoulder injury drummer Patrick Carney suffered earlier this year.
