The Killers’ Brandon Flowers Talks Mixed Feelings About His Hometown

Credit: Williams + HirakawaLots of things come to mind when one thinks of Las Vegas. For Brandon Flowers, who calls Sin City home, he wanted to represent all of those things in The Killers' video for the title-track of their last album, Battle Born. In fact, they even recruited Wayne Newton, aka Mr. Las Vegas, for the video.

"We wanted to get in all the quintessential Las Vegas," Flowers tells Billboard. "We had a white tiger and [tennis player] Andre Agassi. Wayne was pretending to direct the band in the control room. The couches in the studio are still ripped up from the tiger."

However, Flowers isn't always fond of his hometown, as evidenced by the track "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas," from his debut solo album Flamingo.

"I have a love-hate relationship with this town. And it came out," Flowers says. "Usually I'm the ambassador for this place, but in this song I showed another side. I was sick of people handing out cards for hookers on the Strip, and had the idea to use that iconic sign and slogan and turn it on its head a little bit."

Perhaps the love-hate relationship will rear its head again in Flowers' sophomore solo album, The Desired Effect, which will be released on May 19.
