The summer leg of Nickelback's North American tour in support of their album No Fixed Address has been canceled. Frontman Chad Kroeger has been diagnosed with a cyst on his vocal cords, which requires surgery and vocal rest.
"I am sorry I have to interrupt the party this summer and I am definitely not thrilled with the prospect of being silent for many weeks to come when I could be out there playing for our fans," says Kroeger in a statement. "I am relying on my doctor and his team to help get my voice back in good form as quickly as possible."
Nickelback's tour was supposed to start on June 19, but the band cancelled the trek's first two dates with the hope Kroeger's condition would improve. However, the diagnosis means all Nickelback dates through a September 4 show in Durant, Oklahoma have been canceled.
Nickelback had been touring in support of No Fixed Address all year, with the first few legs featuring openers The Pretty Reckless and Pop Evil. Lifehouse was scheduled to open on the summer leg.
Kroeger's medical team believes Nickelback will be able to hit the road again starting with their show on September 30 in Helsinki, Finland, which kicks off their scheduled European tour. The band is expected to return to North America next year.
