Chris Martin Adds Lyrics to “Late Show” Theme and Performs Them Live

John Paul Filo/CBSChris Martin's latest song is a remake of The Late Show theme. Or so he thinks.

The Coldplay frontman appeared in the opening sketch of Tuesday's episode of the CBS late-night program. He suggested to host Stephen Colbert some lyrics for the show's theme -- basically, a string of nonsensical words he delivered by scat singing.

Martin acted as if he'd come up with a new song. Colbert was incredulous at first, but after giving it some thought -- even reading the lyrics on a piece of paper -- he declared to Martin, "You're a f***ing genius."

As The Late Show intro aired and the house band, led by Jon Batiste, played the theme, Martin performed his "lyrics" live.

Later in the broadcast, Martin sang for real as his band performed "Hymn for the Weekend," off their album A Head Full of Dreams.
