Fall Out Boy Planning a “Bigger Version” of “Uma Thurman” for “Billboard” Music Awards Performance

Dick Clark ProductionsWhen Fall Out Boy performs at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday, they'll be playing their single "Uma Thurman" for the first time on television. As bassist Pete Wentz tells it, the BBMAs will be the perfect place to debut the The Munsters-sampling track.

"Sometimes at awards shows it's cool because you're able to do a bigger version of your song, you know like visually lots of times," Wentz tells ABC Radio. "That's exciting to do, 'cause that's how you kind of envisioned the song when you're writing it."

Fall Out Boy's performance will also serve as a preview for their giant Boys of Zummer tour with Wiz Khalifa, which kicks off June 10 in Camden, New Jersey.

"We're gonna get to [perform] with Wiz Khalifa who we're going on tour with, and it’'l be the first time we're doing that, which is exciting," Wentz says.

In addition to performing, Fall Out Boy is also a finalist in two Billboard Music Awards categories: Top Rock Artist and Top Rock Song, for their hit single "Centuries." The winners of each category are determined by each artist's performances on the Billboard charts, which means they're decided by the fans that are buying albums and listening to songs -- an idea that appeals to Wentz.

"We've always been a people's band and I think that for us playing this awards show is special, because that's who's been our biggest supporter and the only way we’ve kind of gotten anywhere," Wentz tells ABC Radio. "We’ve never been like critical darlings, so that's cool for us."

Fall Out Boy will be competing against the likes of Paramore, Coldplay, Bastille and Hozier for Top Rock Artist and Top Rock Song, but for the other categories, Wentz will be rooting for Drake.

"I think that lyrically he speaks to a generation and he's almost, he's like a poet, you know, when it comes to that," Wentz says of the rapper. "I think there's very few people who can put out a collection of songs that doesn't have a single and sell as many records as he does."

The 2015 Billboard Music Awards air May 17 live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on ABC.
