Green Day’s “American Idiot” Film “Might Offend People,” Says Billie Joe Armstrong

ABC/Fred LeeThe long-in-the-works movie adaption of the Broadway musical inspired by Green Day's album American Idiot is currently in development with HBO, and Billie Joe Armstrong has shared a few details of what we can expect from the film. For one, he says that the movie version will "be a lot different from the musical."

"It's kind of more surreal but I think there’s going to be parts of it that might offend people -- which is good," Armstrong tells NME. "I think it's a good time to offend people."

"I think there's just going to be a lot of imagery that we couldn't pull off in the musical in the stage version," he continues. "You know, I don't want to give away too much, but it will be shocking in a way which makes you think."

Armstrong will be reprising his role as St. Jimmy in the film, which he played intermittently during the musical's run on Broadway.

Green Day's new album Revolution Radio is out now.
