With 2016 officially in the books, it's now time to look forward to all the new albums 2017 will bring us. One of those could be from Imagine Dragons, who are currently working on their third studio effort.
"I don't know when it'll come out -- we're not sure yet, it's not complete," frontman Dan Renyolds tells ABC Radio of album number three. "But I feel like it's definitely an evolution for Imagine Dragons, but what kind of evolution, I can't say yet."
"The music feels very real to us," Reynolds says. "I'm just really excited for people to hear it."
Imagine Dragons first two albums -- 2012's Night Visions and 2015's Smoke + Mirrors -- each featured a variety of sounds and styles, from folky tunes like "I Bet My Life" and "It's Time" to heavier tracks like "Radioactive" and "I'm So Sorry." Reynolds says that it's "too early to say what this next album will sound like," but he feels that it will stay true to the band.
"But I think that it can't help but sound like Imagine Dragons," he says. "Whatever that is, I'll leave it to the public to decide."
One thing that is for certain, though, is that Reynolds is now in a much happier and healthier place, both physically and emotionally, than he was when Imagine Dragons recorded Smoke + Mirrors.
"Smoke + Mirrors is a painful record for me, for it's also a really beautiful record to me," Reynolds says. "And I think it'll always be something that I'll look back on as a special record."
