Image Courtesy of Warner Bros. RecordsWhen Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett lost his phone, he didn't just lose contacts and photos, he lost about 250 "musical ideas." Hammett had been using his phone to record potential Metallica riffs, but when he lost the phone, all those riffs were lost, too.
"I was bummed out for about two or three days," Hammett told Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta on his podcast, The Jasta Show. "I walked into the house. My wife saw me and she said, 'Uh oh, what's wrong? Did you get a phone call from a relative?' I said, 'No.' She said, 'What's going on?' I told her, and she understood."
"I'm still looking for [the phone] to this day," he said. "I just set it somewhere and...it still might turn up. I'm hoping it will."
Hammett adds that he tried to remember some of the riffs, but he could only recall about "eight of them."
"I just chalked it down to maybe it just wasn't meant to be and I'll just move forward with it," he said.
Hammett and Metallica are currently working on their new album, and while Hammett didn't reveal too much about the record, he did say that engineer Greg Fidelman is involved in the recording process. Fidelman has previously worked with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slayer, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson and System of a Down.
