Stone Temple Pilots Reportedly Hire “X Factor” Contestant as New Frontman; Rep Says Band Hasn’t “Made a Decision Yet”

Scott Legato/Getty ImagesAre Stone Temple Pilots about to announce their new singer?  Despite a report from Entertainment Tonight that STP has chosen former X Factor contestant Jeffrey Adam Gutt to be their vocalist, a rep for the band says that they've yet to make a final decision.

"The band has been rehearsing with several singers over the past few weeks," the rep tells Entertainment Weekly. "They haven't made a decision yet."

According to Entertainment Tonight, Gutt, who finished in second place on the third season of X Factor in 2013, officially began rehearsing with Stone Temple Pilots this week. The report adds that the band will be touring with Gutt next year, during which they're expected to play STP classics, as well as new songs.

During his stint on X Factor, Gutt performed renditions of Radiohead's "Creep," Aerosmith's "Dream On" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."

Following the departure of vocalist Chester Bennington and the death of original frontman Scott Weiland, the remaining members of Stone Temple Pilots -- guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz -- announced earlier this year that they'd be holding open auditions to find a new lead singer.

"No one will ever 'replace' Scott, that was never the intent," STP said. "The intent is for Stone Temple Pilots to continue on, to evolve, and to do what we do...make music!"
