The Head and the Heart feels like a “well-oiled machine” for headlining tour

ABC/Randy HolmesThe Head and the Heart kicks off a U.S. headlining tour tonight in Madison, Wisconsin in support of their new album Signs of Light. The band spent last fall touring the States behind the album, which includes the singles "All We Ever Knew" and "Rhythm & Blues," which allowed them to explore how the new material translates live.

"It takes a little while to start effortlessly playing new songs," vocalist and guitarist Jonathan Russell tells ABC Radio. "A lot of the things get sort of created and then mastered in the studio, and I feel like we're at the point now where we're sort of this well-oiled machine, and so the songs are feeling more natural live. They're starting to translate more, I think, now live versus just on record."

With last year's shows, as well as their recent trek through Europe, under their belt, The Head and the Heart now feels "ready and tight" for this U.S. run.

"[The shows are] gonna be effortless in a way for us to play and perform well, and I think people will notice," says pianist Kenny Hensley. "They'll be really fun shows."

The Head and the Heart's headlining U.S. tour will conclude in April, after which they'll be playing Coachella. The band also has appearances lined up at Bonnaroo, Sasquatch! and Governors Ball.
