Tom Morello, Members of Rush Appear in Tim Commerford’s New Future User Video

Credit: Dana KleinThe new video from Tim Commerford's Future User project, "Voodoo Juju," includes everything from spinal surgery to a mini Rage Against the Machine reunion. Commerford's RATM band mate Tom Morello guests in the clip, playing Commerford's doctor and sporting a hilarious wig. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush also appear in the video, which you can watch now on YouTube.

In the video, Morello's character informs Commerford that he's lost his supplemental insurance because "Rage Against the Machine hasn't played since 2011." He then racks up Commerford's numerous medical expenses before abandoning him mid-surgery. Commerford then wakes up to the sight of Lee and Lifeson, and the Canadian prog heroes explain Canada's publicly funded health care system.

"I got the idea for the video after I ruptured a disc in my back and needed emergency surgery," says Commerford. "As someone who often goes under the knife, I’ve always been a bit overwhelmed by the process, paperwork, approvals and costs. Luckily, I have insurance, but it got me thinking about all the people in this country who can’t afford medical treatment."

"I read an article recently that said there are over 40 million uninsured people living in the States, which is insane," he adds. "I talked my doctor into letting me shoot the surgery, then explained the concept to Tom, who was totally into the idea."

"Voodoo Juju" appears on Future User's debut album, #SteroidsorHeroin, which is available now.
