Nate Ruess is having himself quite a year so far. In addition to launching his solo career with his song "Nothing Without Love," the fun. frontman will be honored with the Hal David Starlight Award at this year's Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Perhaps most impressively, Ruess will also guest on the track "Saturday Night" from No Pier Pressure, the new solo album from Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson.
As Wilson tells ABC Radio, he had Ruess in mind when he wrote "Saturday Night."
"We wrote [songs] specifically for them," Wilson says of the guests on No Pier Pressure."I wrote 'Saturday Night' for Nate Ruess."
Other collaborators on No Pier Pressure include She & Him and Capital Cities' Sebu Simonian.
Ruess' high voice seems like a perfect fit with Wilson's legendary vocals, but Wilson thought the lyrics suited Ruess particularly well.
"I liked 'Saturday Night' by Nate Ruess," Wilson tells ABC Radio, naming one of the performances he particularly likes on the new album. "I thought there was a really cool lyric about hanging out on Hollywood Boulevard. I like the lyrics."
No Pier Pressure will be released on April 7. Meanwhile, Ruess is continuing to work on his debut solo album, which is expected to be released this summer.
