Damon Albarn's Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett has confirmed the cartoon band has begun work on new material. Speaking to DIY, Hewlett says he and Albarn hope to release the new music in 2016.
"I'm working on it at the moment, and it's going very well," says Hewlett. "I'm very excited. I don't want to say too much about it, but I'm at that phase of experimentation."
Earlier this year, Albarn told Australian news program ABC 7.30 that work on a new Gorillaz album would begin in September, which makes sense since it's now October.
Gorillaz's last album was The Fall, which debuted in late 2010 as a free download to members of the band's fan club. It was officially released the following spring.
