Now that the Grammys are over, it's time for to focus on the awards show where college students pick the winners, the mtvU Woodies Awards. The 2015 Woodies nominees include MisterWives, Bad Suns, Lorde and Big Data.
MisterWives scored a nomination for the Artist to Watch Woodie, given to the best emerging artist. Bad Suns are up for the Best Video Woodie for their "Salt Video."
Previous Woodie of the Year nominee Lorde receives another nod this year, this time in the Cover Woodie category for her rendition of R&B artist Jeremih’s "Don’t Tell Em." While no other alternative artists are up for the Cover Woodie, several nominees are recognized for their covers of rock songs. Pop star Taylor Swift is nominated for her cover of Vance Joy's "Riptide," and electronic artist Kiesza is up for her rendition of Hozier's "Take Me to Church."
Meanwhile, Big Data is up for the Next Level Performance Woodie, which celebrates artists "finding new ways to reach audiences." Big Data is being recognized for their use of social media during their performances.
Voting for the Woodies starts Thursday at Woodies.MTV.com and runs through March 10. For the first time ever, MTV will air the awards ceremony live on March 20, from the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. The hour-long show will be chock-full of performances and awards presentations.
