The Flaming Lips are currently working on their new album, and frontman Wayne Coyne says the band is working on about "50 or 60 things" for the record.
"I wouldn't say whole songs, but moments," Coyne tells Spin. "We've got a couple songs that I feel like are getting to where they're done. We like them, they’re starting to have titles. I don't know if we're absolutely done with every sonic section on them but pretty close, for sure."
Some of those titles are "The Milky Milky Milk" and "Tiger Dreams," both of which Coyne and the Lips worked on with pop star Miley Cyrus.
"Quite a few things that start out as the beginning of a Flaming Lips song and then we consider that maybe Miley Cyrus is going to do the song," Coyne explains. "We have maybe six or seven that are both Flaming Lips songs and Miley Cyrus songs at the same time."
Cyrus previously collaborated with The Flaming Lips on their album-long tribute to The Beatles' legendary Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
"My songs have never been this fun and this emotional, because I'm not the one singing them," Coyne says. "I'm writing them and thinking about them like, 'What would Miley Cyrus be singing about here?' It gets you from another area in your brain where you're not singing about your own stupid self all the time."
The Flaming Lips' last original album was 2013's The Terror.
