Reprise RecordsOver the weekend, Disturbed posted two videos on their Facebook that seemed to suggest they're coming back. Now they've made it official.
The band, which has been on hiatus since 2011, will release a new album titled Immortalized on August 21. The lead single, "The Vengeful One," is out now, as is a new video that mixes animated and live-action elements. The disc is also available for pre-order on the band's official website.
In a statement, frontman David Draiman explained the band's four-year absence by saying, "The idea was to leave when we were at our peak, which we were, and to come back when we felt reinvigorated." Guitarist Don Donegan adds, "We wanted to return when we collectively had that fire underneath us. We missed it so much that we could tap into this energy and deliver the right album. We did it on our own terms."
January 2014, Draiman, Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren met up in Chicago and began secretly writing material, the first time all three had collectively written together since 2001. Draiman says, "For this album, everything was written in the same room. It was wonderful experiencing how it used to be back in the day for us...We could feel the difference."
"I think the fans will feel like it was worth the wait," adds Donegan. "We've been planning this for the past year and keeping it a secret so we can't wait to hear the response. I hope fans realize we have a lot more left in us...to be away from it for almost five years, get back in a room, write together, and tap into that fire is awesome...we're returning stronger than ever."
While the first single "The Vengeful One" has "that old school metal sound," according to Donegan, Immortalized also includes a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's folk-rock classic "The Sound of Silence."
